Writing about Nicole Henry’s concert feels as futile as reviewing the tide or a solar eclipse. She’s stunning, charming, witty, sensual—and yet, none of these words even begin to capture the experience of seeing her perform.
Nicole Henry is no stranger to Novosibirsk. I first heard her back in 2009 at the Philharmonic’s inaugural jazz festival. Over the years, with annual performances in the city, she’s built a loyal fan base and a repertoire of insider jokes. Between songs, she entertained the audience with stories about learning Russian, confessing that she finds the word “пожалуйста” (please) particularly sexy. The room practically hummed with amusement.
At one point, she dedicated a song to Galina, a Philharmonic staff member she’s known since her first concert here. In perfect comic timing, Galina’s phone rang loudly during the dedication. Moments like these, intimate and unrepeatable, make Henry’s concerts truly unforgettable.
